Chocolate Nutella Cake

Happy Valentines Day I hope your spending it with the ones you love.

I made a Nutella cake for Valentines Day since my nieces and nephews absolutely love the stuff, I’m not the biggest fan of Nutella but this cake turned out great.

The recipe is from the latest Food magazine it makes enough for two large cakes and rises up well, its super moist and delicious.

Chocolate Nutella Cake

Recipe source Food Magazine

3 cups flour
3/4 cup cocoa
3 tsp baking soda
1 1/2 tsp baking powder
3/4 tsp salt
2 cups sugar
4 eggs, room temperature
1 3/4 cups milk
3/4 cup canola oil
2 tsp vanilla essence
3/4 cup Nutella

Icing

75g butter, softened
1/2 cup Nutella
3/4 cup icing sugar
pinch salt
1/2 tsp vanilla essence
1/2 cup chopped toasted hazelnuts (optional)

Preheat the oven to 180C. Line a 24cm x 30cm x 6cm baking dish with baking paper.
Sift the flour, cocoa, baking soda, baking powder and salt into the bowl of an electric beater. Add sugar. In a separate bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, canola oil and vanilla. Pour egg mixture into the dry ingredient’s along with the Nutella. Beat on medium speed for 1-2 mins until well combined. Pour mixture into prepared pan. Bake fro 45-50 mins until a skewer comes out clean, Mine only took 40 mins. Set cake aside to cool.

Meanwhile, to make icing, place softened butter and Nutella in a mixing bowl and beat until glossy. Add icing sugar and salt, add vanilla and mix until combined. Add a tsp of hot water if it seems too thick. (I added about 4 tsp to get a nice smooth consistency)

Spread the icing over the cooled cake, decorate with chopped hazelnuts or use Wiltons ready-to-use icing tubes and The Pretty Baker hot pink sprinkles like what I did.

Be my Valentine.
A bit of a rush job with the decorating 🙂

The cute card my niece made for me.

Happy Valentine’s Day
xoxo
